New sculptural installation

I am beginning a very large piece of work.  The installation will consist of 40-60 pieces of painted and multimedia free standing columns and associated wall sculpture constructed of wood, concrete, and steel with acrylic and casein paints, copper, and stone.

This will be the first large installation in the series that began as a 7-piece wall sculpture (Earth Messages)  originally exhibited in Washington D.C and subsequently installed in the main office of the Geoscience Directorate at the National Science Foundation.

The original inspiration for a 3-dimensional ‘walk through the Earth’ came from the Aboriginal Memorial (1987-1988) which I saw and experienced in Australia in 1988.  My new group of sculpture builds upon the concept of our sampling various bits and pieces of information to construct a whole – how we experience the world and construct our knowledge, outlook, and vision of the world we live in.  I use abstract renderings of geological ‘core’, data, and outcrops to create a three dimensional sculpture which one can walk though.

Art School in Telluride – summer auction

Remnants #1

For the second year, I’m contributing a piece of my work to support the Ah Haa School of Art in Telluride.  Last year I took the donated piece to Telluride and I enjoyed, for the first time, this lovely mountain town which has a dedicated art community.  I can’t make it this year, but this small piece will be traveling across the Rockies!
