Susan Eriksson is a painter and metalsmith living in Boulder, Colorado. Her formal education is in geology and geochemistry, and she has spent the past two decades both studying and making art while integrating art into the teaching and learning of geology in both formal and informal educational settings.
In the mid-1990s Susan attended a workshop on Play led by Boston artist Kate Ransohoff. Artist's Statement
Geology provides the visual vocabulary and conceptual impetus for my art. Relationship, time and place are the three main themes - how a rock relates to another, the relative time of events, and the characteristics of the places formed by various geological processes. Maps, photos, field notes, specimens, logs, cores, data visualizations, graphs, and such - geology is a visual science, and it provides a cornucopia of images. Complete statement...
